The chapters in this book represents the work of fifth generation octogenarian descendants of Albert Wilson, a slave born 1810 in South Carolina; and Lucy Norment, a slave born 1840 in Hardeman County, Tennessee. Individual chapters discuss this family's growth and development within an American Society that sought to diminish it. We discuss some of the historical events that had a significant impact on shaping our family and influencing it development. We dedicate sizable space toward introducing family members to one another so that we become live entities rather than a blur on photographic paper. We also cite the educational achievements our family has has made despite the racism, discrimination, oppression, violence, segregation, and hatred meted out against its members. This book offers the first socio-historic view of the Norment-Lewis-Wilson Family.
